Community Garden “The Garden of Tomorrow”
The other day I was on my way to the Maricopa Extension Office which is on Baseline. I couldn’t remember the exact address, so I was driving west on Baseline from 32nd street. Just as I was thinking it was time to turn around, I came upon a very large community garden. I had to stop. I met a wonderful group of people. The garden is called “The Garden of Tomorrow”. It on Baseline and 18th Place. Every 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month from 8:00am to 12:00pm, they have a “Gardening Party”. They have food and entertainment while you garden. Syl took time to visit with me. He also gave us “all” an open invitation to the “Gardening Party”.
The garden was established by the “We”TGRA, Tanner Garden Residents Association. The video clip above is Syl Primous the President of the Association. TGRA provides the water for the garden. They took and empty field and made a beautiful garden. The garden is also supported by the Tiger Mountain Foundation, CEO Darren Chapman and Moses Jones. The Tiger Mountain Foundation http://www.tigermountainfoundation.org/ built the garden for the residents to bring people together with a common goal, to grow great produce. It is changing the neighborhood into a positive place to be.
Hey Robert – Did you see any media at the Garden? I was hoping for some news coverage!
I work at American Express and will be volunteering at the garden on Sep 10, 2011 as a part of the National 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance. I am honored to be working at the Garden of Tomrrow (and getting dirt under my nails), and look forward to this community experience.
